Examination Guidelines
Here are a few guidelines for parents and pupils. We have set them into place as, through trial and error, we have found this is the best way to ensure children and parents get the most out of the dance lessons.
We are a School that goes out of our way to ensure the children and parents are happy at all times and if there are any queries or problems regarding the guidelines below please do not hesitate to contact us.
We pride ourselves on taking examinations with the Royal Academy of Dance examination body. The RAD is looked upon highly if children wish to take dance further as a career.
Children who we feel are ready, usually take examinations around the age of around 8/9yrs (RAD grade 1 Ballet). That way they can develop maximum technique and the children feel completely prepared for the examination process. The RAD recommends a child spends an average of 18 months - 2 years in a grade before taking an examination. This is the case for grades 1 - 8. If children wish to progress further they can take the vocational grades (Pre- Intermediate, Intermediate and Advanced 1 and 2) .
We try to stick to that guideline, although we do look at each child's individual progress as they move through the grades.
The RAD expect a great amount of syllabus knowledge and technique so it takes time to attain what is required and expected to pass the examination.
We also give children the option of taking an EMSOD in school exam open to everyone.
